Dear Carol

"Dear Carol, I think I have a crush on my ex"

Dear Carol,

I think I might have a crush on my ex-boyfriend. Problem is, he has a girlfriend. Whenever we hang out (we’re really close friends), he sends me mixed signals and treats me as if we’re still dating. I kind of hope he does like me back, but I’d feel terrible if they broke up because of me. I can’t stop thinking about him. What should I do?

- Crush On My Ex

Dear Crush On My Ex,

If relationships weren’t complicated, no one would read advice columns. I’m glad you and your ex have stayed friends, but it sounds like these mixed messages are keeping you both from moving on. Look, some couples do get back together…but since he’s not single, your best bet is to get some space from him and his GF. Hang with other friends and focus on yourself, and you’ll start meeting other potential crushes. It may sometimes seem like there are only three people in the world, but there are over 8 billion.
