Happy Pride Month!

June is all about celebrating who you are and supporting your queer friends. It's also the perfect month to uplift queer voices by consuming content by and about members of the LGBTQIA+ community. This June, make some time in your schedule to take a look at some of these shows, movies, books and social media accounts that feature queer rep. You might just find yourself with a new favorite piece of content!

Lucky for us, more and more well-produced LGBTQIA+ TV shows have been premiering every year. Not sure which one to binge first? DW—we've got you covered.

๐Ÿ“บHeartstopper: This amaze Netflix show follows the super sweet (and heartstopping!) love story of Nick and Charlie, two boys who meet in an English secondary school. It features lots of great representation, including an ensemble of characters who identify as gay, bisexual, lesbian, transgender and asexual.

๐Ÿ“บXO, Kitty: This spinoff of the classic To All the Boys I've Loved Before trilogy is all about Lara Jean's younger sister, Kitty, who moves to South Korea to study at her mom's high school alma mater. While there, she makes lots of friends, gets involved in some drama and discovers her bisexual identity as she navigates her complicated romantic relationships.

๐Ÿ“บLove, Victor: This show, a spinoff of the Love, Simon movie, follows Victor Salazar, a new student at Creekwood High School. Throughout the series, he learns about his sexuality, comes out to his family and grows more confident in who he is. He also makes a great group of besties, which features another queer romance between two of his friends.

๐Ÿ“บYoung Royals: This captivating Swedish show follows Prince Wilhelm as he navigates friendships and romances at his boarding school while dealing with the pressures of his daunting future as the king of Sweden. While at the school, he meets Simon and must decide between fostering his relationship or giving into the Crown's expectations.

๐Ÿ“บThe Owl House: This Disney Channel animated show is about Luz Noceda, who travels through a portal to a world that features witches, warriors and magic. During her journey, she makes new friends, including a character who identifies as non-binary. Luz also comes out as bisexual during the course of the show, pursuing a romantic relationship with Amity, who identifies as a lesbian.

๐Ÿ“บNever Have I Ever: This show is full of laughs, drama, romance and queer representation. It features Devi Vishwakumar, a high-achieving student who navigates grief, rivalries and first love with her besties by her side, including Fabiola Torres. Fabiola's story arc has her thriving as a member of the robotics team while also accepting her identity as a lesbian and falling in love, making her journey one not to miss.

Call up your friends and grab the popcorn and candy—it's time for a movie night! During this Pride Month, be sure to check one of these films that highlight LGBTQIA+ stories.

๐ŸŽฌLove, Simon: This romcom is a Pride Month go-to. It's all about Simon Spier, a gay high school student who hasn't come out to anyone, including his family and best friends. He soon meets another gay student online though, which leads to cute anonymous messages being sent back and forth. But when someone finds out about Simon's online correspondence and threatens to reveal his identity, Simon has to figure out if he'll be accepted for who he is and be able to have an epic love story after all.

๐ŸŽฌThe Half of It: This coming-of-age film follows Ellie Chu, a student who makes money writing others' essays and is secretly crushing on her classmate, Aster. One of her clients is Paul, a football player who wants Ellie to write a love letter for him to give to Aster. Ellie and Paul's friendship grows and she continues to help him pursue a relationship with Aster...all while Ellie's feelings for Aster continue to grow too.

๐ŸŽฌDo Revenge: This Netflix comedy is full of plot twists and cute romantic moments. It follows Drea and Eleanor, two students at an elite school who come together to get revenge on each of their enemies. As the two carry out their chaotic plans, truths are revealed, alliances shift and romances are sparked—Drea with Russ, and Eleanor with Gabbi.

๐ŸŽฌEverything Everywhere All at Once: This Academy Award-winning sci-fi film features Evelyn, a Chinese immigrant whose laundromat is being audited by the IRS, being sucked into the complexities of the multiverse. While facing the dangers of the multiverse, Evelyn has to go on a self-discovery journey that calls for her to save her marriage, protect her family's business, reconcile with her daughter and accept her daughter's queer relationship.

Time to get started on your summer TBR list! And what better way to kick off the summer than with a couple of books featuring LGBTQIA+ characters? Look no further—we have all the best recs perfect for Pride Month.

๐Ÿ“•I Kissed Shara Wheeler by Casey McQuiston: McQuiston's debut YA novel is about Chloe Green, a high school student hoping to win valedictorian over her rival, Shara Wheeler. But just as graduation nears, Shara suddenly kisses Chloe and runs away. Chloe must then team up with the other people Shara kissed to decipher the notes Shara left behind and find her. This leads to self-discovery, queer positivity and a good bit of romance.

๐Ÿ“™Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo: This sequel to Bardugo's hit Six of Crows novel has a bit of everything: romance, magic, angst, plot twists, disability rep *and* LGBTQIA+ rep. The novel follows Kaz Brekker and the Crows as they face the aftermath of their major heist and are tasked with saving not only Ketterdam but the entire world from a dangerous substance. During the subsequent thrilling events, two of the Crows reveal their queer identities, and a sweet romance begins to bloom.

๐Ÿ“—Loveless by Alice Oseman: This novel follows Georgia as she begins university with her best friends and new roommate by her side. While her peers are all going out on dates and having romantic moments, Georgia decides to pursue a relationship of her own with one of her friends...despite not really being attracted to him. This experience causes Georgia to take another look at the aromantic and asexual labels and figure out what her identity might be.

๐Ÿ“˜Always the Almost by Edward Underhill: Underhill's novel is all about Miles Jacobson, a transgender 16-year-old who is determined to get back together with his ex-boyfriend and win a major piano competition. Meanwhile, he meets Eric, a queer artist who immediately accepts Miles for who he is. Their friendship takes a turn when the two engage in a fake dating scheme, and Miles is pushed to make some self-discoveries about whether he is enough.

Social media platforms can sometimes be sources of mindless scrolling and comparison. But if you follow the right people, these apps can instead be used as educational resources that push you to do more research on your own after logging off of Insta or TikTok for the day. This Pride Month, check out some of these social media accounts that can help you learn more about LGBTQIA+ history and the issues the community currently faces.

๐Ÿ“ฑ@lgbt: This IG account is a go-to for LGBTQIA+ posts. It offers some insight into LGBTQIA+ history, news about current issues that the queer community faces, reminders about acceptance and positive posts encouraging pride in one's identity.

๐Ÿ“ฑ@pinknews: This Insta is one of the most popular sources for LGBTQIA+ content. It features posts about queer celebrities, information on queer history and flag meanings and details about current major LGBTQIA+ stories, making it a great source to stay up to date on recent news.

๐Ÿ“ฑ@mattxiv: Matt Bernstein's IG account is full of great content detailing major news in a way that is easy to understand. Many of his posts center around LGBTQIA+ history and current news and can be good starting points for learning about complex stories.
