Should you add fartleks to your running routine?
Say what?! Fartleks, which is Swedish for "speed play," are a no brain way to make your running routine more fun (and toast more cals). Here's how:
Heart those hills
There's nothing worse than being on a run and seeing a ginormous mountain in your way. Flip your thoughts by promising to sprint up every hill ya see. Running with a bud? Race her!
Take the stop-sign challenge
Stop? Not you! Whenever you run by a stop sign, pick up the pace! Sprint for 50 or 100 yards (or until the next light post).
End with a bang
I finish all of my runs with a big kick at the end--a super sprint to finish it off and say, yep, I've still got something left (it comes in handy later, when you're racing). Then, walk it out, have a glass of water and relax (or do weights!).
