Losing weight...with no support!
I hate my body. I am 13 and way over weight. I really need help. I am so scared to try to lose weight. I don't want my family to know that I am exercising or trying to eat healthy.
Every time I ask my mom to stop buying junk food she says that I need to suck it up and not eat it. It gets me so angry. If I cant get the support of my family then how am supposed to lose weight at all! My brother thinks that he can always call me "fatty" or ask me "why do you have to weigh so much?"
I am so angry that I get made fun of all of the time for being fat! I try to talk to my parents but all they do is ignore me. I really need help!
Hey girl, losing weight is hard enough. Losing weight with no one to support you is even harder. It's really awful that your family isn't providing you with the help that you need, but there's no reason you should feel ashamed to let them know you're exercising and trying to eat healthy.
Wanting to feel better about yourself is awesome and you shouldn't let anything or anyone stop you from feeling your absolute best! Try talking to your mom again and let her know how important this goal is to you. You could say, "Hey, Mom, I'm trying to lose weight so I can be healthy and more confident. I'd really appreciate your support."
Also, kindly ask your brother to stop teasing you. You could say, "It really makes me feel bad when you make fun of me. How would you like it if I made fun of you?" If he continues to be rude, then just ignore him; eventually he'll get the hint. If your family still isn't giving you the support you need, then don't be afraid to ask your pals. Who knows? Maybe one of your girls is trying to lose weight, too, and you two can be gym buddies! Working out is so much more fun when you do it with someone else.
Most importantly, remember that you're doing this for you and no one else, so it doesn't really matter what other people think. It's awesome that you want to become healthy. You should be proud of yourself. Best of luck!
Lots of love,
