Is sleeping in a bra *actually* bad for you?
If you're a girl who wears a bra, you probably have an opinion about sleeping in it—or at least have heard a million. Sleeping in a bra keeps your boobs from getting saggy. Sleeping in a bra causes cancer. Sleeping in a bra stops your boobs from growing...the list goes on. Time to *bust* those myths once and for all. (Sorry, we had to.)
Let's set a few things straight. Sleeping in a bra does not cause cancer and it certainly won't stunt your boob growth. That's not to say, however, that there aren't downsides to sleeping in the wrong type of bra. Bras with underwire or bras that are too tight, for example, can "impair the blood flow and [cause] lymphatic drainage, which, at worst, can lead to chronic inflammation, oedema (fluid retention) and discomfort," according to breast surgeon Kefah Mokbel.
Small-breasted girls, then, are probably best-suited to going braless while catching some Zzzs. If you have a C-cup or bigger, though, your girls may need a little more support while you're sleeping. Both your back and your chest will benefit from snoozing in a bralette, underwire-free t-shirt bra, or even a cami with a built-in shelf bra. Plus, it'll probably be a lot comfier!
So there you have it—when it comes to supported sleeping, it pretty much depends on what you're working with. Do you sleep in a bra? What crazy myths have you heard? Let us know below.
