The girls of Maybe April have a *lot* to teach us about friendship
How cool would it be to be in a band with your three best friends? That's exactly what the girls in Maybe April live *every* single day. The trio consists of Alaina Stacey, Kristen Castro and Katy Bishop who met back in 2012 at GRAMMY Camp and instantly clicked not only as friends, but as songwriters, too. "GRAMMY Camp is a really awesome camp where high schoolers or [kids who] just graduated high school can go and learn about all aspects of the music industry", explains Alaina. One highlight of the camp is the finale launch party, where campers pair up and perform songs they worked on together. When no one was pairing up with the Maybe April girls, their mentor suggested they work together. They ended up writing Loving You Still in a matter of hours...and the rest was history.
The girls know how important teamwork is when it comes to, well, everything. "We all have strengths and weaknesses that we can help each other with and work well together," says Kristen. "We each have unique qualities that help come together to really create one full unit." (We get it, the true secret to girl power: lifting each other up!).
Kristen also has a bit to teach us about being afraid. "I’d say even if you’re scared, if you have a dream, just go after it and make any connection you can along the way and say yes to *everything*." The fearless ladies of Maybe April refuse to be controlled by doubt, and they always stick together because their friendship makes them unbreakable.
"I would say the best part is being able to lean on each other creatively...when you go play shows, it’s nice to have your friends with you." Katy spilled to GL. The girls truly appreciate their friendship and realize it's not something to take for granted. They're proof that working with your friends is infinitely better than working alone because your gals know how to encourage you, and, after all, two minds are better than one.
As Alaina reminds us, "it’s important to have our voices out there and have a community of people. Be supportive of everyone you meet!" Show your gals that you care by supporting them, and creating a loving community. Everything is better with your friends by your side, and nothing is impossible when you work hard and lift each other up.
Katy's awesome advice for music-loving gals and future songwriters? "Stick to what you really believe in and what kind of music you really like to make. Stay true to who you are as a person and what kind of music you want to do, even though it might not fit into a certain genre mold." These ladies strive for anything *but* fitting a mold. If you're always doing your best and pouring your heart into your passion, you're following your dreams.
