Five things that every only child understands
Being an only child *definitely* has its moments...from the awesome to the not-so-great to the downright awful. From being the center of attention to feeling like a third wheel, there are certain things that only children understand better than anyone. If you're slacking on sibs, you know exactly what we're talking about with this list of so-relatable sitches.
When your parents are mad, it’s always your fault.
Dishes got left in the sink, the dog ate the food off the counter again, your mom couldn't sleep last night. Everything that happens in your house somehow becomes your fault. Your parents usually take each other’s sides, so who's left to be the odd man out? You.
You wish for a brother or sister, but then realize that’s what friends are for.
Alone time is your time--and you love it. Yet, there are some days that you get lonely. You wish you had a brother or sister, or someone to constantly hangout with. But you have tons of friends, or maybe even a few close ones that feel like family and, when you’re done hanging out with them, you’re thrilled to go back to your own room… alone. It's the best of both worlds.
Everything is about *you*, whether you like it or not.
Every minor moment feels like a milestone. Your parents act like your first homecoming date, your first soccer game, or your birthday party should be televised. Not to mention, your entire house is covered in pictures of you and whenever someone comes over, your parents are way too eager to brag all about you.
You are often called an old soul because you hang out with adults all the time.
“I thought you were so much older!” Nope. How many times have you heard this one? Given the fact that you're around adults more often (hello, they're the only people you live with!), you tend to have a different outlook on the world and probably grew up quicker than most.
You wouldn’t change it for the world.
Yes, there are days when you want a sib more than anything. But, when it comes down to it, you love the attention from your parents and the relationship you have with your mom and dad is all you need. They have your back but still give you the space to grow up, even though sometimes it seems like they are hovering over you. You will always be their one and only baby, no matter how old you are.
