Your official guide to alternative period products
Let's be honest: It can be *so* hard to find the perfect period product. Once you do, though, your period will be a lot easier! If pads or tampons just aren't right for you, or if you're looking to try something new, we've got you covered. We want to help you find what's right for you...so read on to find four different period products. Your period is your period, so don't be afraid to try lots of other products before finding the perfect one.
1. Menstrual cup
A menstrual cup is kind of like a tampon, except it's reusable, and you can use it for around 12 hours. We know it seems a little scary at first, and it takes a little bit to get the hang of it, but trust us, it's worth it. Here's a how-to video, but we recommend watching a few before trying a cup out for the first time. You also will need boiling water to clean it after each use.
2. Period underwear
If you like pads, these are an ah-mazing reusable alternative. Disclaimer: Most period underwear is meant for your lighter days. There are many options spanning different sizes, fits, styles and colors. They even sell sleep shorts.
3. Cloth pads
Similar to period underwear, reusable cloth pads are awesome if you're interested in a more environmentally conscious option (and saving some $$$). If you're crafty, you can even make your own! All you need to do is throw the pad in the washing machine, and you're good to reuse it for years.
4. Menstrual disc
A menstrual disc is pretty similar to a cup. We've linked a disposable version, but some brands offer reusable ones. If menstrual cups don't work for you, but you like the idea, we totally recommend trying discs. Remember, it's all about finding what's best for you! We found a review and how-to video for you on YouTube.
