The *real* reason behind this period prob
There’s no denying it. Being on your period is the worst. The cramps, the headaches, the bloating, and—TMI alert—the runs.
According to PBS Nova’s “Gross Science,” the real reason why girls poop more than usual while on their periods has everything to do with your bowels. Prostaglandins (the hormone that triggers the uterus to collapse each month), can also cause your bowels to contract as well.
Another hormone that can control your bowel movements is progesterone, a hormone known to be constipating. Since progesterone levels decrease during menstruation, it’s not doing as effective of a job at regulating your bowel movements.
In short? The reason why you poop so much on your period is because of hormone levels changing. It's not a bad thing, but it's definitely not fun. And if you think something *really* isn't right down there? Make sure you see your doctor as soon as possible.
