5 reasons to heart the sun's sizzlin' rays
Vitamin J for Joy
Soakin’ up the sun keeps you happy. In fact, some people have an extreme need for the sun and develop seasonal affective disorder (SAD), which is a form of depression that gets worse in winter when it’s dark and cold out. So take advantage of the free mood lift, and get outside!
Heart Health
When your skin is exposed to sunlight, your bod produces vitamin D, which decreases your risk of heart disease and heart attacks. And since heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, it’s pretty obvious why we heart the sun.
Cancer Conscious
There have been lots of studies trying to connect vitamin D with reduced risk of cancers, like breast and pancreatic, but so far scientists don’t all agree. Since there are some that say there’s a link, make sure you’re gettin’ enough time in the sun, just to be safe.
Stand Proud
Another benefit of vitamin D is that it helps your bod absorb calcium. And if ya get enough calcium, you won’t end up with osteoporosis, which causes your bones to get weak. Lots of older ladies have osteoporosis, so they break bones easily and become stooped. But if you get your calcium in now with the help of a li’l sunshine, you won’t have to worry when you add some age.
Snag Some Shut-Eye
Going out in the sun makes your bod release melatonin, which keeps your circadian rhythm goin’ strong. That way, you won’t have to worry about insomnia when it’s time to go to bed. The last thing ya want is to pull an all-nighter when you don’t have to.
