Hit the trails for a morning hike
Get in good with Mother Nature this Earth Day by taking your
gals on a hike. Not only is it an awesome way to explore a part of your area
you’ve yet to see, but it’s also an ah-mazing way to get in a li’l sweat sesh.
Kick things off right with 411-packed invites. Suggest items to wear and bring
along along with the usual who/what/where/when deets.
Pick a spot: Depending
on where you live, you could have a whole plethora of options available to you.
National and state parks are a great place to begin your search. Take note of
the difficulty level of the hike you choose—and the fitness level of your
friends and chaperone. You want everyone to have a good time!
What to wear: Nix
the ruffles and fancy pants and throw on a pair of old jeans, a comfy t-shirt and sturdy
sneakers or hiking boots. Slather on the sunscreen, toss your hair in a pony
(or cute braids), and get a move on!
Pack your bag: Make
sure someone in your party is toting a first aid kid, including band-aids and
bandages, an antibiotic ointment and pain relievers. Other items to stow in
your backpack? Sunscreen, a water bottle, a map and a compass or a GPS, your
cell phone and a camera.
Before you go: Make
sure to eat a good breakfast packed with protein and good carbs. If you and
your chicas are caravanning to your hiking location, meet up earlier to have
some munchies together. Omelets with toast or Greek yogurt smoothies are tasty
options
Recharge: Midway
through your hike, find a scenic spot to take a breather and refuel. Homemade
granola bars, trail mix, dried fruit and all-natural PB&J sammies are tasty
snacks everyone’ll enjoy. Yum!
