Should you take the Cinnamon Challenge?

Chances are you’ve heard about the Cinnamon Challenge. You’ve seen it on YouTube from the Governor of Illinois to NBA stars and everyone in between.  Not in the know? Well, the Cinnamon Challenge is sort of like a dare—you’ve gotta swallow a whole spoonful of cinnamon…without water. It’s proving contagious (and totally viral on the web). Our advice: Skip this one, sweeties.
Though this may be amusing to watch, there are many health risks.  Cinnamon is hazardous because its particles don’t break down easily and thus gets stuck in the throat, causing gagging and sometimes vomiting.  Yuck!
Worse that that, though? It can also block air from your lungs. "It is an obvious choking hazard and there is a risk of inhaling the dust. This certainly is not advisable," a spokesman from the Food and Drug Administration explains.  One girl was hospitalized for four and a half days after doing the Cinnamon Challenge.  “I was laughing, and it got caught in my throat,” the girl, Deja Reid, says. “I got dizzy and I just couldn’t breathe at all… it almost killed me that night.” And this isn’t just a freak accident. Swallowing cinnamon like this can cause permanent lung damage, especially for those with asthma. Talk about scary!

So here’s the message loud and clear to you chicas:  Don’t do things that will put you directly in harm’s way, especially just for laughs or more views.  No matter how funny it looks, the Cinnamon Challenge and other similar dares are detrimental to your health.

What do you think about the Cinnamon Challenge?  Blog about it, babes.
