In the news: Is sugar toxic?
Scientists from University of California, San Francisco are
arguing that sugar should be a controlled substances for kids under the age of
17. Their plan? Put a tax on it. Why? They’re hoping that by regulating the
amount of sugar kids consume each day, obesity—now at an all-time high of 17
percent—they’ll be able to combat childhood weight gain.
But is sugar really so bad for us? Well, researchers have found that fructose, a main component of sugar, can lead to liver toxicity, just like alcohol can. Yikes!
What do you think of the proposed regulation on sugar? Weigh in!
