4 ways to get out there and enjoy the foliage
You
tried grasping onto summer long enough, but there's no denying it now:
the air is cooler and the trees are just starting to show off their new
hues. Yup, it's officially fall. Well, starting tomorrow, anyway. And
though the leaf-changing isn't in full-swing just yet, here are the
best activities to try out once peak foliage does arrive.
Hit the trails
There's no better way to get the full foliage experience than actually
walking through the copper kaleidoscopic forest. Set aside a Saturday
for you and the fam to take on the scenic trails at a nearby state or
national park.
Hop on a bike
For a more exhilarating twist on the trails, bring your bike to the park
– even if it's just the one in your neighborhood. One word of caution:
leaves can be very slippery after a rainfall, so be careful on those
paths with your 10-speed.
Try the water
Pack away those surfboards and bust out the kayaks and canoes. The
local lake or river might be a tad chilly, but you're gliding on it – not
swimming in it. Besides, can you think of anything more picturesque
than fiery leaves reflecting in the cool, calm water?
Sign up for a 5K
With all that time spent training for tryouts, why not put your mileage to good use and
a good cause? October is Breast Cancer Education and Awareness month
and Race for the Cure is the best time to zip across the finish line
while taking in all autumn’s got to offer.
