5 ways to get a caffeine boost (minus the sugar)
An apple a day keeps the doctor away!
Did we mention that an apple has the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee -- crazy, right? An apple has natural sugars that boost your energy the same way a cup of coffee or soda would. If you don’t like apples, any fruit will do the same thing. Fruits are high in natural sugars instead of processed unhealthy ones. Plus, fruits will leave you nice and full, because instead of the sugar going right to your liver and giving you a quick jolt and then a complete energy crash (like a soda or a candy bar), the sugar will be processed more slowly, in smaller amounts. Need to keep going the whole day? You'll be way more successful with fruit than with constant sips on soda.
Go for a jog in the morning.
Getting your body moving in the morning wakes you up and keeps you energized throughout the day! If running is not your thing, do some jumping jacks or go for a nice morning stroll through your neighborhood. Being active in the morning will get your blood circulating, which increases alertness and your energy levels. A good, fit start to your day will also kick-start your metabolism for the day.
Go to bed an hour earlier.
Getting a good night's sleep is the first step to being more awake the next day. It may seem hard, but 8-9 hours of sleep every night will give you the energy for the next day. And don’t sleep in too late! Oversleeping can make you even more tired and will have you dragging your feet all day.
Make your own tea.
Brewing your own tea at home lets you control how much sugar goes in. With no preservatives and no extra sugar, tea naturally has caffeine and, depending on the type, other added benefits (hey, did you know green tea is packed filled with antioxidants?). Not to mention how easy tea is to make. There are endless flavors of tea out there so mix and match your faves to come up with new flavors. There's sure to be a type of tea out there that will make your tastebuds tingle, no matter how picky you are. Best part is you can drink tea hot or cold, so it's an all year round, any time sort of energy boost.
Stay hydrated!
There’s nothing more energizing than drinking what’s best for us. Drinking water helps nutrients and sugars get to the brain quicker. By sipping on water all day will help get your energy up without those sugary drinks.
