Tauruses, we're looking at you...
Scorpio: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
As The Hunger Games series continues to take over our TikTok FYPs, let's revisit Suzanne Collins's prequel novel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, released 2020. If you're a fan of the series, this book is a total must. Scorpios, it's time to dive into this dystopian world once more (and right now is the *best* time to read it, before the film adaptation arrives next fall!).
Leo: Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen by Dyan Sheldon
Okay, so with this pick, we're not saying that all Leos are drama queens... but we *are* saying that all Leos can enjoy a good drama-filled story. Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (a title you may recognize from the throwback Disney Channel original movie of the same name!) is all about Lola, a girl who has just moved to New Jersey with her fam. Lola is dead-set on making a name for herself at her new school—sound familiar, Leos?—and is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure everyone knows she's a star.
Capricorn: The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
This read is powerful, emotional and thought-provoking. A standout novel that took the world by storm, The Hate U Give delivers hard-hitting messages, through a well-written story that tackles issues of racism and police brutality. This book will stay with you long after you put it down and spark a lot of heavy-yet-important discussions. Our passionate, dedicated Caps won't be able to put this one down.
Aquarius: When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead
Friend breakups? All too relatable. But time travel and secret messages? Not so much. Set in New York City in the 1970s, this mind-bending read focuses on the story of Miranda, a middle schooler who's finding her independence and coming of age in an uncertain world—that may not be all that it seems. Introspective Aquariuses will *love* how refreshingly authentic this novel is and how deeply they can connect to Stead's clever storytelling.
Pisces: Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
As a Pisces, you can use a little mystery and suspense to break free from routine life. This first installment in Ransom Riggs's Peculiar Children series will introduce you to a whole cast of oddball characters that are *anything* but ordinary. The novel follows teenager Jacob as he unravels a murky family history, one that leads him to an abandoned orphanage full of secrets (and magic!?). Plus, if you just can't get enough of this novel's haunting suspense, there's a film adaptation to check out on Disney+, too!
Cancer: The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han
Sensitive and loyal Cancers, prepare for a read full of all the summer romance and classic tropes that author Jenny Han knows how to do best. By the end, you'll be torn between two sides: Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah? And as the weather begins to heat up, this is the *perfect* book to read under the sun.
Aries: As You Walk On By by Julian Winters
As You Walk On By is the quintessential modern romcom and the book that every Aries is missing in their library. The coming-of-age theme draws you in, but deep within the story is an important message that all teens need to hear: no one is alone. It combines the elements we love from past romcom classics and twists them into a modern young adult novel about finding yourself and discovering who you truly are.
Gemini: Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
Stargirl takes on the classic themes of standing out and the desire to fit in and explores what happens when an extraordinary individual comes along to challenge those norms. Author Jerry Spinelli writes a story that young readers will connect to easily and see themselves in. As a Gemini, you will enjoy this story's unique and fresh take on growing up and the original, spunky voice that Jerry Spinelli brings to the character of Stargirl.
Libra: Kate in Waiting by Becky Albertalli
Libras, your time has come to find a romcom with all the theatrical drama you've been missing. Whether you consider yourself a 'theater kid' or whether you would rather stay behind the curtain, this book gives you all the drama, romance and humor you could ever ask for. What happens when two besties fall for the same guy? Let's just say, you'll have to wait until you pick up this book to find out.
