Got questions about puberty? We've got answers
Puberty is a part of life we all have to go through (and yes, it's a drag for all of us). It's a magical yet daunting time in your life when your body is going through all sorts of changes that you can't control. Pimples start popping up, your mood might start swinging more, hair starts showing up where it wasn't before. This can all seem like pretty scary stuff but we promise it's *really* not that bad...and there is in fact a light at the end of the tunnel.
If you're feeling a little uneasy about how your body is changing, remember first that every girl you've ever met has gone through or is currently going through the same process. Don't feel embarassed to ask your mom, an aunt, older sister or bestie if you need some advice. But if you aren't quite ready for that talk, there are plenty of books and online resources that will answer your every question—you can even submit your questions to GL at the link at the bottom!
1. The Care and Keeping of You by Valorie Lee Schafer
This all-encompasing book is your bible when it comes to every physical, social or mental concern you may encounter as you go through puberty. With plenty of pictures and jaunts of humor, it's both lighthearted and informative.
2. It's My Life
This website from PBS Kids is a great interactive way to get answers for some of your most burning questions about your body. They also discuss other topics like alcohol, eating right and navigating your teens.
3. The "What's Happening to My Body?" Book for Girls by Lynda Madrea
The title is pretty self-explanatory. This book tackles puberty, eating disorders, STD's and more with informative yet endearing real-life stories every girl will be able to relate to.
4. Teens Health
This site is super detailed when it comes to all of your health concerns–even though going to a doctor is your best bet if it's something serious. They have a section called Teen Health specifically made for you! It covers puberty, sex education, fitness and soooo much more.
5. "What is Puberty? Decoding Puberty for Girls"
This cute video covers the basics of puberty in under five minutes. While it certainly can't answer everything you may have questions about, it's a good start.
