Your guide to hosting the ultimate 2000s-themed birthday party
Dreaming about hosting the *ultimate* birthday bash this year? Stop what you're doing and picture this: an unforgettable 2000s-themed party complete with bold outfits, the best playlist, tons and fun and lots of laughs. We have all the deets you need to make it happen right here.
The 'fits
Oh, to have a wardrobe as expansive as 30-year-old Jenna Rink's. But not to worry. Even if your closet's a bit more minimalist, perfecting your party look is still totally doable. In fact, you probably have a ton of pieces hidden in your dresser that should do the trick. After all, the 2020s are all about Y2K-inspired fashion. Cut-out tops and wide-leg jeans are really all you need. Feeling bolder? Bright colors and patterned pants are your friends—and a mini handbag helps, too.
Whatever you do, don't forget about your hair! The early 2000s were certainly a fun time to style strands, and your party is the best excuse to try something new. Spiky buns, butterfly clips and zig-zag parts are all *iconic* looks of the early aughts. (Check out these looks and more here.)
When in doubt, look to our fave 2000s fashion icons for inspo: Raven Baxter, Lizzie McGuire and Mary-Kate and Ashley, ofc.
The fun
Every great party has a few fun activities planned out. Our suggestion? Break out your most relaxing face masks, microwave some popcorn, kick back and enjoy one of your fave iconic Y2K teen movies. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is perfect to watch with your best girl group, and Bring It On *guarantees* a good laugh.
Follow up the movie with a karaoke sesh. Srsly, is there anything better than jamming out with your friends? Ofc, you'll want to sing along to all the best hits from the 2000s. Think: Avril Lavigne, Hannah Montana and Paramore. We have the perfect Y2K playlist to get you started here.
The favors
Let your friends know how much you appreciate them coming to your bash with a small gift at the end of the night. Channel the early 2000s with some ~classic~ beauty products. We're talking lip gloss, colorful eyeshadow palettes and pretty much anything glitter. Add a couple of pretty gel pens and a sparkly notebook that your friends can show off at school next week and throw in some candy as well. Push-Pops, Sour Skittles and Fun-Dip are all just as tasty as they are nostalgic.
