EXCLUSIVE! Peyton Elizabeth Lee spills all on her new series Doogie Kamealoha, M.D.
Whether she’s playing low-key Andi Mack or a literal superpowered royal, Peyton Elizabeth Lee’s unapologetic realness always shines through. That’s the case in her next role as a teen doctor in Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. (premiering Sept. 8 on Disney+). We caught up with Peyton, 17, to talk about her new show (obvi), and also to confirm that she’s still an amazing human. (Spoiler alert: She is.)
GL: Tell us a little about the show and your character, Lahela.
Peyton: Lahela is a prodigy and super driven, but she also has to deal with family, friendships and falling in love. Her brain guides her in the hospital, but her heart leads her at home.
GL: Do you come close to prodigy status at anything yourself?
Peyton: I wouldn’t say I’m a prodigy by any means, but recently I’ve been making beaded jewelry with some of my friends. I think it could be my calling.
GL: Anything else we would be surprised to know about you?
Peyton: I love to roller skate. I go every chance I get.
GL: Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. is a reboot of the much-loved early ’90s show Doogie Howser, M.D. Any other fave classic you’d love to see get a modern makeover?
Peyton: From the time I was little and watched it with my sister, I’ve always thought there should be a remake of Princess Protection Program!
