Easy ways to get glam for a video chat

Want to be the belle of the ball (er, video call) during quarantine? Simple adjustments made behind the screen can get you *instantly* glammed up for your next Zoom date, FaceTime study sesh or evening dance party with your BFFs.

You don't have to go all out—false eyelashes and sequin frocks can stay packed away for now—but looking put together can actually raise your spirits amid a monotonous quarantine routine. "Doing some makeup makes you feel more productive and generally instills you with a positive attitude," says celebrity makeup artist Danielle Parkes. Indeed, companies such as Glam Squad and Blushington are offering virtual makeup classes to keep you occupied at home while simultaneously improving your skills; that way, when social distancing guidelines are lifted, you'll have your getting-ready routine down. In the meantime, check out some easy ways to boost your appearance for your next online appointment.

Throw your hair in a messy bun.

No blowout necessary—a loose, effortless updo is all you need. Bonus points for bold printed scrunchies!

Put on jewelry.

A simple necklace, pair of earrings or bangle will do. If you want to add a touch of flair, it's all in the details: try sporting a chunky necklace or dangly earrings, and you're guaranteed to stand out.

Sport some loungewear.

The person on the other side of the screen is fully aware that you're inside of your home, so fancy attire is not required. Don a colorful, matching sweatsuit (Zumiez and Boohoo have adorable options) to still dress to impress.

Dab on lip gloss.

Pick a clear, nude or light pink hue (i.e., Glossier's Lip Gloss) to achieve the ultimate "I just woke up like this" look. Darker shades are better suited for evening activities—can you say, "karaoke night?"

Play with highlighter.

Apply a liquid or powder solution to the tops of your cheekbones to appear sun-kissed and totally glowing—even while you're still stuck indoors.

Swipe on mascara.

Just one or two coats will leave your lashes looking bigger and bolder. Use a darker solution to stand out on camera.

Put on glasses.

A prescription or blue light pair will instantly light up your face. Plus, sporting spectacles will make you look super smart for online school. Double win!
