Girl Talk: Grumbling Girlfriend

Don't get me wrong, I love my best friend, but she's ALWAYS complaining! It’s really annoying and it makes me so frustrated. Usually it’s about being exhausted from gym class (which everyone else is too, but we don't complain) or that she’s sick. It makes me so mad. After gym, she’s always like “Gosh, I’m soo thirsty. I’m soo exhausted it’s not even funny. I feel like I’m like dying, you don’t understand.” I’m in her gym class and I do the same exact thing and it's really not that bad! She usually doesn't even do anything but just stand there, while I'm left doing all the work (it was 2 on 2 field hockey). I’ve tried to ask her nicely to stop, but it never works. Please help! What can I do to stop her complaining?'

Hey, girlie! People who complain constantly are pretty annoying, I'm not gonna lie! I guess the fact that the "complainer" is your best friend is kinda tough.

You mentioned that you tried to ask her nicely but she doesn't listen. I'm not sure what or how you asked your best friend, but I think it's really important that you don't beat around the bush and get straight to the point.

Yeah, she's your best friend and you love her to death, but sometimes you just have to tell it like it is. Take her aside when she's not complaining and talk to her about it. Say that you've noticed she complains too much and although it is a little annoying to you, you don't want other people to judge her for it too. If you're her best friend and ya get annoyed, can ya imagine how other people find her behavior?!

If she continues to complain, then you should call her out on it while she's actually complaining. This way she'll realize how often she complains! Try showing her the brighter sides of situations to help her stop complaining. Your friend will thank you in the end for sticking with her.

Good luck!!
<3, Sharon
