When Lightning Strikes

Here's a story written by GL reader Jacqueline G. for our 13 Days of Halloween Ghost Story Contest. Let us know what you think and be sure to check each day for another ghastly tale!
One Halloween night 16 years ago, a 16-year-old girl named Ella Rose and her boyfriend Michael went on a date to a haunted house on Killer Street. They had heard from some kids at school that the house was haunted.
The legend said that the first people who moved in saw a strange man on the front porch. The husband went outside to take a look, but there was no sound. The wife called out his name but there was no answer, so she called again. She couldn’t take it anymore and reached for the phone. But she tripped over something, and when she looked down, she saw it was her husband’s head.

Just as she was about to scream, she turned and saw his killer. The lightning struck and they all disappeared.

Some say that the murderer is still alive and living in the house, but no one has dared to go inside the house since.

“You sure you want to do this Michael?” asked Ella. She stood looking up at the house and all she really wanted was to go home.

“Don’t worry Ella, I’ll take care of you,” said Michael as he grinned at her. She couldn’t figure out why he was smiling, but she went inside the house any way.

As they stepped inside, Ella spied a puddle of dried blood on the porch. She knew it was from the husband the kids told them about.

“Michael I’m scared,” Ella said, gripping Michael’s hand hard. As she walked through the doorway, Michael shut the door. She turned around to face him and saw that he was laughing evilly.

“M-Michael?” she stuttered.

Michael pulled out an axe. “Oh, you’re so silly Ella darling,” he murmured. His face began to glow blood red.

“Michael?” she repeated.

“You see Ella, I’m really not supposed to be alive,” Michael said. “I’m really dead. I was the killer in the story those kids at school told.”

Ella couldn’t believe it. The guy she was dating was a dead murderer? “But how are you still alive?” she asked. She was so scared.

“Let’s just say I wasn’t ready to leave Earth just yet,” he replied. He held his axe up in the air and took a swing at Ella.

“Why kill me?!” she screamed.

“I need fresh new blood from someone energetic and young,” he said. Michael took another swing at her.

“G-Get away from me!” she shouted as she ran.

He chased her all over the house. “C’mon Ella!” he called after her. “Let me have your blood. I’ll help you live again.”

“No!” Ella managed to dodge the axe again, but when she reached the porch there was no one there to help her.

“Goodbye Ella darling,” Michael whispered. “I’ll sure miss you.”
He swung one last time. Then lightning struck and Ella and Michael disappeared. No one has seen them since. The haunted house on Killer Street still stands and they say a ghostly figure holding an axe stands on the porch, waiting for new blood.
