How to navigate missing your friends over school breaks

Winter break is right around the corner, and that means no homework, stress or classes for the next few weeks, whoop-whoop! This free time can be a great way to recharge, but if you're spending the break away from your friends (Think: if you're doing a staycation while your bestie is off visiting her grandparents), it can be tough to spend time away from them. Here are some go-to tips to help you stay connected, no matter the distance.

Plan a group call

With the internet, the possibilities are endless for how you can stay in touch with your besties. From FaceTime calls to group chats, take advantage of your free time and connect virtually.

Journal it out

While spending time journaling solo might seem like the opposite of spending time with your friends, spending too much time with others might prevent you from taking time for yourself. Take a couple minutes a day to write down what you're feeling, which will help you be kinder to yourself and your friends.

Take some time to be screen-free

We've all been there—scrolling through Instagram or TikTok and getting *major* FOMO from your friends fancy vacations or fun trips with the fam. This constant social media use can lead to some pretty negative emotions, so spend some of your break away from your phone. You can write some letters to your friends, read a book or even just go for a walk.
