LIFE

Dear Carol

Wanna make it on the honor roll this year?

I have never been on the honor roll, and I need advice on how to get better grades. I study about 15 minutes a day. What more should I do?

Dear Student,

The new school year is just starting, so how about hitting the books for more than that quick quarter hour? After school every day, set yourself up in a quiet place and plow through your work, subject by subject. Take mini breaks for rejuvenate, but not mega ones. Instead of passively reading textbooks, grab a pencil and underline key sentences or take notes. That way, you’ll be studying actively so the information has a better chance of sinking into your brain—and staying there. Perhaps Dad could read off the words for you to define or spell. Don’t let yourself get behind, seek help from teachers when you need it and shine in at least one subject. You really can become a better student!
