WE TRIED IT: Jump Rope Team
Wanna have fun, get fit and raise money for a great cause? Join a jump rope team!
I was on was a jump rope team called the Radical Ropers. Our main goal was to promote participation in Jump Rope for a Heart, an event that raises money for the American Heart Association. We definitely had a blast doing it.
The Radical Rompers had synchronized routines but we also jumped freestyle to show off our flavor. My favorite part was always Double Dutch. That’s when two people are turning two ropes at once and someone jumps. Some people can do turns, handstands, and even flips, all while keeping time with the ropes. It’s amazing.
Even if your school doesn’t have a team you can still get involved. Get your friends together and make up some routines. Jumping rope is fun and is great exercise. It may seem frustrating at first, but it is so exciting when you master a move.
Just grab a rope and start jumping!
Check out the December/January issue of Girls’ Life, on newsstands Nov. 18th, for a great jump roping routine.
