It's National Hiking Day! Here's how to find the best hikes near you
Nov. 17 is National Hiking Day—and we're celebrating by, well, hitting the trails. Fall is the perfect time of year to find an amaze hike near you. We're here to help with the best resources for finding some totally Insta-worthy paths. Grab your shoes and let's get going!
1. AllTrails
AllTrails is the perfect place to start if you're looking to start hiking more. It's both a website and an app that shows you hikes within close range of where you live. You can also set different settings like difficulty, length and suitability to fit all needs.
2. The Outbound
Something great about The Outbound is that on their website or app, you can find other resources aside from just hiking trails, such as snack tips, planned trips and even hiking terms.
3. Trailforks
Similar to AllTrails, Trailforks offers a very similar website and app experience. If you're interested in finding hikes to do things like horseback riding or bike riding, this is the perfect site for you. You can also track where you've been and plan future hikes and rides.
4. The NPS App
If you are looking to venture out a little, The National Park Service App is perfect for you. One of the best features is that you can create a list of all the parks you've been to. It also offers photos, trail maps and accessibility descriptions which makes this the perfect app for everyone. While this is only offered through an app, it is completely free.
P.S. remember to always stay on the trails and respect the wildlife! A good tip is to always leave a place better than you found it.
