*This* is the secret to falling in love with running

We're going to let you in on a little secret: Running is not for everyone. However, it's worth the sweat (literally). Why? We *promise* hitting the pavement (or partaking in any sort of cardio for that matter) is beneficial and fun.

In fact, it's a totally mood-booster when you're feeling stressed or anxious (hello, finals week, anyone?). Here's why you should stick it through the pain.

Get going
Turns out you *can* run away from your problems—sort of. Going for a jog (or any cardio, tbh) has brain-boosting benefits like promoting the production of endorphins, the chemicals that make you feel happy and calm. Even better? Hitting the treadmill or the trail also gives you time to process your probs.

“On a run, you’re alone with your thoughts, which forces you to be at one with yourself. And the actual movement of ‘moving forward’ shifts your mentality and brightens your mood as well,” says Meghan Takacs, a master trainer at Aaptiv.

Training tips
Not a huge fan of running? Opt for a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout instead, which will keep both your muscles and mind moving.

Run, girl, run
To customize your cardio routine, pick explosive exercises like burpees, jump squats or high-knees. Set a timer for 15 to 20 minutes, then do each move for 30 seconds, followed by 45 seconds of rest.

Bonus: The more focused you are on what’s coming next, the less you dwell on whatever is stressing you out.
