4 ways to feel better when you have a cold
Getting a cold is inevitable, especially during fall. That doesn't make the following week of a sniffly nose, an incredibly sore throat and the overwhelming need to take a nap any easier. Read on for our best tips on feeling better fast...
Take a rest day
Although you're probably busy, it can be incredibly therapeutic for both your mind and your body to take a break. Consider this permission to kick back 'n' relax. If possible, stay home from school, skip your workout or even just take a three-hour nap. Your body is working hard to fight off the virus—and it needs rest.
Drink lots of fluids
Yes you've heard it a million times, but that doesn't make it less true. When you're sick, staying hydrated is one of the best ways to feel better and bounce back. Try drinking as much water as possible. Pro tip: To soothe a sore throat, mix a tablespoon of honey and a squeeze of lemon juice into a hot cup of tea—then sip away.
Take a hot shower
Hot showers are great, with or without a cold. Turn up the heat, blast your favorite song and let the steam clear your nasal passages. It's great to relieve muscle aches, relax your body and just generally feel cleaner.
Take medicine
Mild medicine can help moderate the worst of cold symptoms like nausea, headaches or sore throats. Try cough drops, Advil or any over-the-counter drug designed for relieving cold symptoms. Just make sure to check with a trusted adult or doctor before you take it!
