Why gifting gives ya the warm 'n' fuzzies
Most people agree that giving is better than receiving—and now science is backing it up. It doesn’t matter if you’re wrapping up an iPad or buying cocoa for the person behind ya in that Starbucks line. Doing something nice for someone else causes your brain to release dopamine, a hormone that causes happiness.
Maybe that’s why we love the holidays so much! But the giving doesn’t have to begin and end on Christmas. A study shows that those who do charity work gain big-time emotional benefits, like lower levels of depression and a huge boost in self-esteem. Bonus? Since humans are wired to appreciate kindness, it’ll make everyone think you’re pretty much the most awesome person ever.
And who are we kidding? You totally are. Let the giving begin!
