Holiday stress-busters
The holidays are supposed to be cheery but with all the to do’s, they can end up being totally stressful. From figuring out how you’ll afford presents to how to avoid family overload, we’ve got ways you can survive all the hullabaloo. Take a big breath and keep reading our best stress-busters for the season.
Seasonal stress: How am I supposed to exercise on a regular basis in the middle of all the holiday craziness?
The solution: It may seem impossible, but you can do it. Exercising amidst the nuttiness can save your sanity. Set aside at least thirty minutes every day to be active. Feel bad taking time away from your family’s visit? Invite your cousin to go on a run with you or challenge your bro to an intense game of Wii Tennis. Or get up a teeny bit earlier in the a.m. to get your sweat on.
Seasonal stress: Cookies, cakes and brownies are everywhere. How do I keep from over eating when I’m surrounded by treats?
The solution: When sitting around the fire with the fam, sit as far away from the platter of sweets as possible. Grab one or two, put them on a napkin, and then walk away. It’s much harder to resist with them sitting right in front of you.
Seasonal stress: My family is in town and my little cousins are driving me nuts.
The solution: We all love our families but during the holidays, it can get a lil’ bit suffocating when they’re all there, all the time. Try getting away for a couple hours by going to a movies or retreating to your room for some quiet reading. Sometimes just a little break is all you need to chill out. Or get the group involved in a big game—a little healthy competition can be totally fun.
Seasonal stress: With all this gift shopping, I’m totally broke. How can I afford gifts for my friends?
The solution: You don’t need to spend a ton of your hard-earned dough on prezzies. BFFs love getting cute little reminders of your friendship, so photo albums and collages are a big hit. You can buy a big poster for less than a buck and then go over the top decorating it with pics of you two, inside jokes, and little memories! It’s sweet, thoughtful and, yay!, totally affordable.
