Craft a cool chevron tote from our June/July '12 issue
What you’ll need:
Plain canvas tote (try Michael’s)
Chevron template (download it HERE)
Scissors
Ruler
Painter’s tape
Spray paint in your fave color
Rubber gloves
A recycled cereal box or other piece of cardboard
What you do:
1. Print
out the chevron template and cut out the black zigzags.
2. With a
ruler, arrange the pattern in a straight line at the top of your bag, and
lightly trace the outline in pencil.
3. Move
the pattern 1 ½ inches below the first line and trace another, repeating
‘til you reach the bottom.
4. Tape
off the outlines neatly to leave white space in between each one. Press
down firmly on the tape so no paint can seep underneath.
5. Flatten
the cardboard cereal box and place it inside your tote so that no paint
can transfer to the other side.
6. Lay
the tote bag on a flat surface outside and spray paint the white spaces in
even, light coats.
7. Let
paint dry for at least one hour. Peel off the tape and voilà, mama’s got a
brand new bag!
