6 places to avoid on a first date
Going on a first date can be one of the best feelings in the world—as long as it’s done right. Going to the wrong place for a date can make your night unforgettable, all for the wrong reasons. People are getting more and more creative with their date ideas, but that doesn’t mean you should throw caution to the wind. Here are some places we suggest avoiding during that first one-on-one hangout sesh with that cutie.
Your House
Nothing would be worse than trying to get to know someone over dinner while having your parents and siblings interrupting every five minutes. If you really feel the need to stick at home (or if your parents won’t let you have a date anywhere else), try and set some ground rules with the fam beforehand.
A Concert
Although it may sound amazing to go see your fave band with your cutie, that’s no place for a first date. At concerts, you want to be able to jam out and go gaga over your celebrity crush. Doing that with a potential BF may be a little awkward. Leave those musical nights out to hang time with your girls. We bet your guy will enjoy hearing about it later on.
Fast—or Fancy—Food
Yes, we know. Dinner is on the must-do list for first dates, but that doesn’t mean you need to go somewhere like Wendy’s or the fanciest place in town. Hitting up a fast food place will make it seem like the date isn’t important to you. And if you go to a 5 star restaurant, you’re setting the bar extremely high. Try to find a happy medium where the two of you can relax and have a good time without emptying your wallet.
The Mall
The local mall has everything from your fave clothing store to that yummy fro-yo stand, but it’s not the place for a first date. The mall may tempt you to want to go shopping and try on everything you see. Trust us: No one wants to spend their first date waiting outside the dressing room.
Family Functions
This is an obvious no-no. Meeting the whole extended fam on a first date is not only super intimidating, but can also lead to super awkward moments. First dates are a chance for the two of you to get to know each other, not a time for the whole family to go all 20 questions on your dude.
The Movies
It seems like in most movies and books, the first date involves the couple going to the movies. But think about it: Who wants to pay $12 a ticket to sit in silence for two hours during the first time you two are together? Movies are a great date idea, just not for the first night out. Save it for later when you’re more comfortable with your cutie.
