Lo and behold, nine-year-old Brooke and six-year-old Blaire came up with the best boyfriend rules checklist we’ve ever seen. There's 30 in all, but our fave five requirements are…

• Listens

• Respects different religions

• Makes you laugh

• Good manners

• And most importantly… Respects you

Now, there are a few of these rules that are bendable. (We’re looking at you, “no weird last name.”) And some of these are looking way too far in the future for middle school and high school boyfriends. (Ahem, “wants kids” and “likes your job.”)

But the rest of these are solid for any potential BF, whether it’s a first date with a guy you met a week ago or your high school sweetheart you want to stick around after graduation. Your time is valuable. Make sure he’s worth it.
