Rule School with Amelia

Being popular is one of the trickiest tasks at any school. Jimmy Gownley’s new graphic novel Amelia Rules (in stores now) is the story of how Amelia and her friends find themselves depending on the Tweenage Guide to Not Being Unpopular, as told through the hilarious narration of the witty and clever Amelia McBride.

Haven’t read comics before? This is where you’ll want to start. In true graphic novel fashion, each frame reveals how Amelia found herself and her friends at the bottom ranks of the school nerds and geeks, blaming popularity. The artwork is filled with catchy eye candy that will get you laughing no matter your age.

The book is loaded with sarcasm as Amelia guides you through the process, never failing to keep you interested as she likes to dramatically give examples of her thoughts through ideas that look like they come right out of a comedy sketch. Whether she’s battling a new teacher with light sabers dressed as a Jedi, or on the news having photos taken with Paris Hilton, readers will have a fun time getting lost in her imagination.

Amelia and her gang become obsessed with weaving their way to the top of class through the ranks of nerds, geeks and cheerleaders amidst the everyday obstacles of elementary school. On their mission, Amelia must make a decision about one of her closest friends, which makes her realize things that are way better than what she’s wanted all along—to be popular.

Be sure to pick up Amelia Rules and let us know your thoughts.
