Listen up Barbie girls (and guys and fans): This is not a drill. We're finally getting some more deets about what is sure to be the most plastic and most fantastic flick of the summer. The new extended trailer for Barbie just went live, along with a list of the many musical artists who will be featured on the soundtrack.

You already know we've been keeping up with Barbie news for a bit (star Ariana Greenblatt graced the cover of our April/May '23 issue), but now our hype levels are getting dangerously high. Dua Lipa on the soundtrack *and* shining onscreen? Will Ferrell as an evil toy company CEO? Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in those neon '80s-inspired roller blading fits? Did someone say movie of the year?

We're breaking down our favorite parts of the latest trailer, plus giving you the rundown on whose music you can expect to be bumping in preparation for the movie's July 21 release.

The new trailer

This new trailer is our first glimpse into the actual plot of the Barbie movie. In the OG teaser, we all immediately fell in love with the vivid all-pink-everything universe and, ofc, the silliness of the iconic "Hi Barbie!"...but it did leave us wanting to know So. Much. More. 

In this latest clip, we get to see the day-to-day of Barbie's so-called "perfect" life. She parties on the beach, dances all night and literally floats out of bed every morning. Barbie herself says it best: "It is the best day ever. So was yesterday and so is tomorrow and every day from now until forever!" Yet, when strange things start happening in Barbie World, she realizes that everything might not be as flawless as it seems—so she sets out on a journey to the Real World to find the truth.

It's tough to pick just one fave moment from the trailer, but a few front runners have got to be Barbie and Ken slaying their mugshots, the America Ferrera appearance and, best of all, the Barbies freaking out over (gasp!) flat feet. (Honorable mention to the unapologetic text that flashes across the screen: "If you love Barbie, this movie is for you. If you hate Barbie, this movie is for you.")

Plus, the trailer ends with none other than the queen of rap, Miss Nicki Minaj—just one of the many amaze musicians who will be on the Barbie soundtrack!

As if the bubblegum pink looks and hilarious one-liners from the new trailer weren't enough, we also got a sneak peek of the artists we can expect to hear on Barbie: The Album (aka the movie's soundtrack).

Based on this Insta announcement, it looks like Barbie: The Album is going to have something for everyone. From girlpop divas like Ava Max, Charli XCX and Lizzo to emerging chart-toppers like Ice Spice and The Kid Laroi, the tracklist is def going to be star-studded. Swfities will be happy to see some familiar names, like HAIM and GAYLE, who are both opening for Tay on Eras Tour shows this summer. And we can't wait to find out what Dua Lipa (and Ryan Gosling???) are bringing to the table, since the they're both acting in the movie as well. Spoiler alert: It's probably major bops.

Needless to say, we're absolutely pumped for July. Bring on the giant blowout party and planned choreography, pls.
