Military Moms and Dads
Got a mom in the military or a BFF whose dealin’ with a deployed dad?
CNN.com recently reported teens from military families who have a parent deployed experience more stress and emotional probs than their peers. The study found these kids also have to miss out on school activities or pick up more chores around the house. About 30 percent of the military teens interviewed showed signs of anxiety as well (which could be everything from an upset stomach to being irritable).
We caught up with the girls in the Sisterhood of the Traveling BDUs a while ago, and they shared ways to cope with having a parent overseas (or how to support a bud). Reaching out to a trusted adult (like a school counselor or a fave coach or your doctor) and telling them about how you’re feelin’ is key, too.
