Instagram will soon let you filter something besides your photos

Refresh your Instagram feeds, girls, 'cause we've got some news about your fave photo sharing platform. Insta has announced that they’re now giving users the ability to filter something other than photos: comments.

This setting is supposedly designed to help stricken privacy and make the app more user-friendly. “Our goal is to make Instagram a friendly, fun and, most importantly, safe place for self expression," Instagram's head of public policy, Nicky Jackson Colaco, said in a statement to The Washington Post. The new feature allows users to adapt the mood of their accounts and get rid of comments (they can delete or turn them off completely) that they may find offensive or just plain annoying.

Now the power is in our hands, and we can finally control who says what on our pics—yay!

This is not an incredibly surprising move considering recent celeb struggles with comments on the platform. For example, let’s talk about Taylor Swift and Kanye West. After the release and controversy surrounding "Famous," Taylor and Kanye's longtime feud (that seemed to have been squashed) was reignited. Tons of people then commented the snake emoji on Taylor’s Instagram posts as a way to show their support for Kanye. A similar thing happened to Justin Bieber. JB shot back at his fans for posting rude comments about his rumoured GF Sofia Richie on his photos of them. The singer threatened to leave Instagram if the comments didn't stop, and followed through with the claim in mid-August.

There are both pros and cons to this feature. I mean, how are we supposed to keep up with celeb happenings without Insta comments? How are we going to share our love for our fave singers and actors if we can’t even comment on their pics? On the bright side, though, it'll now be much easier to get rid of any unwanted or hateful comments that we may get on our own pics.

This is quite an interesting move for Instagram to make—what do you think of the new feature? Share your thoughts in the comments!
