OMG goes official
If you’re stuck talking in text speak, no worries, babe, ‘cause OMG officially has the Oxford English Dictionary’s seal of approval.
With its brand-spankin’-new 2011 edition, the OED has gone from proper to popular. Recognizing the growing need for shorthand—er, shortspeak—given the rise of texting and tweeting, the dictionary’s editors have decided to add LOL and OMG to the hallowed volumes. They join IMHO, TMI, FYI and BFF.
One of our favorite newbies is the new sense added to heart v., as in I heart Justin Bieber. Muffin top—in the unattractive effect of too-tight jeans sense—has also made its way into the 2011 edition. Other additions include couch surfing, la-la land, happy camper, party-crasher, singledom, smack talk and wassup.
What do you think, girlies? Are you ROFL-ing yet?
