Teen Overuse Injuries Makin' Headlines
We all know parents can be more than a tad bit pushy when it comes to sports. But a recent article in The New York Times showed the darker side of ‘rents who want their kids to be all-star athletes.
Every year, over a million teens are treated for injuries caused by overuse—a result of training too hard for one sport. Research shows that these injuries could be prevented, if coaches and parents switched up training regimens. The article advised taking a couple days off a week, avoiding playing the same sport in multiple leagues per season and not focusing on one sport 12 months out of the year.
So, what do you girls think: have you seen overuse injuries on your teams? Do you think parents pack on too much pressure when it comes to sports?
