Make Your Smoothies Super!

Here at G-Life, we don’t think about most smoothies as health foods. A lot of times they are loaded with unnecessary sugar and calories (especially when stores blend ‘em up with syrups or whole-fat yogurt).

A recent article on The New York Times Well blog reminded us that those frozen ‘n’ fruity bevs aren’t all bad, especially when you add nutritional boosters.

The article suggested throwing in some unexpected ingredients in the blender the next time you whirl a smoothie. Their ideas? Oatmeal (to thicken), almond butter (for protein) and kiwis (because of their high vitamin and nutrient content) and even spices, like cinnamon and tumeric. Not all at the same time, of course!

Do you ever mix it up when you’re making smoothies or do you stick to what you know? Our fave recipe is classic and can totally be altered to fit your tastes. We love the idea of getting together with a few friends, plenty of frozen fruit (and maybe a couple veggies, like carrots) and a bit of yogurt and seeing what you can whip up.
