The Let It Shine cast spills their favorite songs

Only a few more days until the Let It Shine June 15 premiere on Disney Channel. Are you excited?!

Not only is the flick loaded with awesome stars (Coco Jones, Tyler James Williams, Trevor Jackson, anyone?) it’s got tons of great music, too.

Jam packed with soulful ballads, funky jams and hip hop beats (much different than the songs you’ve heard on past musical Disney Channel hits like Camp Rock and High School Musical), the 13-track Let It Shine soundtrack, which hit stores today, has everything you need to kick start a super chill summer.

We caught up with the cast on the flick’s jumping Atlanta set, and they let us in on their favorite Let It Shine songs. Which is your fave?

“Guardian Angel”

Tyler James Williams, who plays shy Cyrus in the movie, told us this one is his favorite track—a ballad in which he raps and Coco Jones sings. “It comes from a place when Cyrus is very frustrated with what is happening with his life,” Tyler tells us. “He just pours his soul out and talks about things that emotionally affect him. It’s so real.”

“Let It Shine”

Tyler’s co-star Trevor Jackson (who plays best bud Kris) prefers this title song, sung by Tyler and Coco. “It’s so beautiful and the lyrics mean a lot,” the cutie tells us of the classic gospel-folk tune.

“What I Said”

When we talked with Coco Jones (Let It Shine’s pop star Roxie), she had a more difficult time picking out a favorite track! “I honestly love every song. They’re all so different and they all have so many different varities,” she says. “I love the church songs because I grew up in church, the rap songs because I love to rap…I just love them all.”

The Coco track we love the most (and still can’t get out of our head!)? “What I Said.” We caught her performing this upbeat R&B track when we hung out on the Let It Shine set and wait until you see her moves (and costume!) in this special club scene.

While the majority of the songs on the Let It Shine soundtrack feature Tyler or Coco, expect to hear tracks from other members of the cast, including Brandon Mychal Smith (who you may know from Disney Channel’s So Random!). The CD also has cool bonus content, including a free downloadable “rap battle beat pack,” complete with four instrumental tracks for you to rap over!

Don’t forget! Let It Shine premieres on the Disney Channel this Friday, June 15, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Be sure to listen to these tracks, then sing along with your favorite stars during the big premiere.
