The GL girl's guide to dressing for a wedding
By now, you've probably heard the fab news that your cousin (or family friend, or godsister or—you get it) is getting married! The not so fab downside? The dress code on the invitation might as well be morse code, bc you have *zero* idea what you'll wear on the big day. Luckily, we're here to help. Consider this your one-stop shop (literally, we've linked the lewks) for all things wedding wear.
Black tie
Dress: Azazie, $69 • Pantsuit: Amazon, $66
We're strarting with the fanciest dress code first—black tie. While mom and dad might sport a floor-length dress and a tux, your best bet is a formal dress or pantsuit. A black tie event is also the perf opportunity to sport a chic heel. If sparkles are your thing, find a way to incorporate them into your dress or in your hair.
Cocktail
AKA semi-formal, cocktail attire is slightly more flexible than black tie. Shorter dresses aren't just acceptable, they're the way to go. Heels are still an option, but flats or loafers work just fine.
Semi-formal
When the invite says semi-formal, always lean toward the dressier side. After all, it's way better to be overdressed than the awk one dressed for a backyard picnic. A short neutral dress is a perfect go-to.
Themed
Wedding dress codes are becoming more and more specific. If the theme is color-based, shoot a color you already feel comfy in. If the theme more specific (say, beach-themed), have fun with florals and other stand-out patterns.
Come as you are
Come as you are is probably the most difficult dress code to follow, simply because it sounds too good to be true. By definition, a come as you are dress code emphasizes wearing clothes the guests deem fit for the big day. Whether you opt for dress pants and a blouse or your tried-and-true tulle dress, focus on feeling comfortable and rocking your own personal style.
