The style evolution of Kenzie Ziegler, from 2011 to 2021
Kenzie Ziegler has been serving us looks since 2011 when Dance Moms first premiered. She's now become a teen style icon, but how did she get here in the first place? Over the years, we've been able to watch her grow up on the show and develop her own personal style on social media. From Dance Moms to now, let's take a look at some of her major fashion eras and looks.
Dance Moms era
Kenzie doesn't have a ton of pics on Insta from her Dance Moms times, but from what we can tell, she was a dancer through and through. She lived in tank tops and leggings because the dance studio was her home away from home. We can't get enough of these *adorbs* photos of young Kenz.
Post-Dance Moms: dancer off duty
After Kenzie officially left Dance Moms in 2016, we saw more of her personal style outside of dance. Even though she wasn't on the show, she was still dancing, so she sported lots of leggings, joggers and comfy sweaters. She also styled her hair in lots of ponytails and braids, which were also reminiscent of her dance show days.
Exploring the basics
Throughout 2017 and 2018, we saw Kenzie step out of her dance clothes and into fashion staples, like denim jackets, white tees, solid color tanks and black jeans. She mostly kept her outfits clean, simple and on-trend, which becomes a common theme in her style, and we're especially loving this twinsies moment with Lauren Orlando.
Exploring the unexplored
Kenzie graduated from fashion staples and began experimenting with different styles in 2019. From e-girl to grunge and Insta baddie, she tried out different kinds of hair, makeup and clothing aesthetics. Even though she hadn't fully developed her personal style at this point, she pulled off every aesthetic she tried. Not everyone can make a striped shirt under a graphic tee look this good.
Kenzie on tour
She went on tour with the band PRETTYMUCH in 2019, and this tour is where Kenzie went all out with her outfits. This cheetah print dress with lace trim and the disheveled, crimped hair is *everything* and nothing that we had ever seen before from Kenz. She started to incorporate more grungey elements into her everyday fashion after this tour, so it's safe to say that this was a turning point for her style.
A Y2K moment
Along with the grunge fashion elements, the Y2K style started to show up in her outfits after the PRETTYMUCH tour. We're obsessed with this baby tee, bootcut jeans and blue bandana combo. And those blue streaks in her hair? *Chef's kiss.*
*The* pants
Y2K, meet grunge. This all-black outfit featured perhaps the best pair of pants we've ever seen Kenzie in. These Powerpuff Girl pants had everyone in the comments asking where she got them, and this was a major style moment for Kenzie and her personal style. Most of her outfits today mix Y2K and grunge fashion for a totally unique look.
Quarantine TikTok fashion
During quarantine last summer, we were *all* scrolling endlessly through TikTok videos, and so many girls on the app were getting pink streaks, hair feathers or, in Kenzie's case, hair wraps. We're *living* for her blue and white hair wrap and the darker, preppy take on Y2K in this outfit. It's the perf representation of TikTok fashion during quarantine, and it makes us feel like we're watching Tiger King and season one of Outer Banks for the first time all over again.
Now
Kenzie's latest outfits are a combination of simple style staples, Y2K and grunge, so it's a mix of all the fashion eras she's gone through so far. This particular outfit is just a simple tank and jeans, but the accessories elevate it to the next level. The purse and rings are everything, and her slightly smoky eyes complete the look.
