The story behind this Moana dress is so touching
No movie is complete without a premiere, and no premiere is complete without a host of beautiful red (or blue!) carpet looks.
That's why for the premiere of Moana, the movie's producer tapped New Zealand fashion designer Kiri Nathan to design a gorg and meaningful gown for Auli’i Cravalho, the voice of Moana.
We gushed over the movie, out Nov. 23, in our December/January 2017 issue. But if you don't know the deets on this dope new Disney flick, listen up. Headstrong Moana is chosen by the *actual* ocean to set sail from Motunui Island to find the one thing that will save her people: demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson). What happens along the way includes the adorable Pua the pig, a cray-cray chicken and lots of adventure.
Auli’i's premiere dress is, without a doubt, stunning. What makes it even more gorgeous is that it mimics the setting of the movie—the ocean—in its colors and movements. Check out the dress and Auli’i's reaction to it below!
What a dress to wear to the premiere of your first movie, right? Her dress—which is based on Polynesian design—doesn't just *look* beautiful, though. It also pays homage to the film and Māori culture through the its flower design (it's one that is featured in the film) and the intricate Raranga weaving.
What do you think of Auli'i's premiere dress? Where would you rock this look? Sound off in the comments.
