Add these hair trends to your "try now" list
Beauty-obsessed girlies, summer hair school is in session. Sunny szn is the perfect time to practice plaiting, puffing and overall pretty-ing your strands before the school year starts. We're here to get you ahead of the game (get it?) bc you're about to see these hair trends everywhere come fall...
Blooming Braids
"I love to create braids with flowers and gems to add a touch of magic to them," says celebrity hairstylist Ashley Streicher, who gave us the lowdown on this look. Start with your go-to plaits (any braid will do!), then attach your favorite appliques (you can find pretty pieces at the craft store) with a little dot of eyelash glue. Don't fret—it'll wash right out with a bit of warm water in the shower. Blossoms up!
Royal Touch
Fight frizz with a braid that holds your hair in place, away from your face. "A crown braid is a great way to keep all of your hair back while looking pretty and polished," says Streicher. Just create two French braids, then carefully pull at the sections of the plait to loosen a bit. You can add a little R+CO Mannequine Styling Paste ($32, randco.com) to the tips of your fingers for added hold and texture. Then, wrap the braids up and over your head, spinning them into place along your head with hair pins. Lock in the look with a spritz of hairpsray and you're good to go—all day long.
Flipped & Faux
Ok, we're loving this one from back in the '90s. And best part? It doesn't require any braiding skills. "Start by tying your hair into a ponytail, then create a small opening above the hair tie and flip the ponytail through it," explains Aaron Grenia, co-founder of IGK Hair Care. You can stop there or continue flipping and securing sections with a hair tie until you reach the end.
