A celeb makeup artist shows you how to be extra this Valentine's Day

Forget playing it safe. Valentine's Day parties were made for turning things up. So, bring on the glitter and the statement lashes—your beauty lewk is about to get *totally* crush-worthy.

Bold Lip

The key to a stunning statement lip is all about the prep. "Make sure you exfoliate your lips, then apply a lip oil and let it sink in while you're doing your makeup," says celebrity makeup artist Matin. (He loves the ChapStick Total Hydration Lip Scrub, $5). Then just blot before applying your color over top.

Shimmery Eye

Get a wink that sparkles more than any sequined dress by applying a glitter base like NYX Professional Makeup Glitter Primer, $7 first. "Dip a brush into the liquid base and apply it where you want to place the glitter," Matin shares. Then press the shimmer powder (try MAC Cosmetics Glitter in Reflects Bronze, $22) on top and let it dry.

Look-At-Me Brows

Matin's tip for drawing the most yours-but-better brows? Apply pomade with a sharp angled brush to your arches. We love the IT Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe Build-A-Brow Brush #12, $24

High-Key Highlight

We love a little shimmer for a night out. Matin recommends starting with a liquid highlighter and topping it off with a cream formula to make the biggest splash. Try using Pacifica Get Lit Custom Highlight in Topaz, $15, under Kaja Mochi Glow Bouncy Highlighter, $19

Golden Glow

Go for a neutral contour color rather than a bronzer that's meant to warm up your complexion. "It can look too orange and streaky," says Matin. Try Pixi Natural Contour Powder Shape & Shadow, $21

Glitter Lips

Glitter lips were made for dressed-up nights! After applying your lipstick, top it off with a glitter base and then press the sparkles in with your finger (we love Anastasia Beverly Hills Loose Glitter in Pink Sapphire, $15). "It's not going to be the most kissable or comfortable, but it's a lewk!" says Matin.
