"The Right Kind of Gal" - An original poem
“The Right Kind of Gal”
There are so many people I’d like to become,
so many options for me to choose from.
A beautiful girl who seems almost too good,
with pincurls and white pearls, who does what she should.
How ‘bout a gal that wears flaming red pumps,
with a boyfriend a week that she then goes and dumps?
Then there’s the girl that’s in 10 different clubs,
a mathlete and science geek who earns all A+’s.
But at times I do yearn to be sporty and fun,
playing softball and baseball, getting twenty home runs.
I could become the next Barbie at school,
with Starbucks and Sephora being, “like, totally cool.”
What if I learn to play bass and the drums,
with pounds of black liner and Nirvana’s albums?
With such an assortment of girls I could be,
from excessively brainy to fun and flirty,
I think I’d much rather prefer to be me.
