How to bond with your teammates
You just snagged a spot on the varsity team and you couldn't be more excited—but you're also super nervous because you don't really know any of the other girls. They're who you're going to be spending the majority of your time outside of school with, from afternoon practices to Saturday morning running drill, so getting along with them will make your life way more fun. Here's how to bond with your teammates for friendships on *and* off the field:
Start a tradition. It could be a pasta dinner the night before a race or a certain cheer you do in the huddle before every away game. Whatever it is, starting something that everyone can be a part of is a huge opportunity to feel more like a family than just a team. If your team already has traditions, get involved and be the one who keeps them going this season.
Plan fun outings. Ask your teammates if they want to grab ice cream after a super hot practice sesh or catch the latest movie on Friday night. Hanging out outside of sports-related events allows you to get to know them that much better, and you may find common interests that surprise you and lead to a new BFF!
Volunteer. Take your off-field bonding one step further by giving back to your community. Whether it's walking dogs at the animal shelter or hosting a blood drive at your school, doing something positive for your town will make you all feel good and give you a chance to build teamwork as you work together.
Up your game. You're teammates for a reason, because you're all passionate about your sport. Attend a skills camp together or go see a profesional or college-level game for some inspiration. Not only will you bond with your girls, you'll enhance your playing and learn some new skills. Win-win!
