I'm freaked about befriending the populars

I'm outgoing around friends, but I have the hardest time talking to new people, especially popular ones. In my new math class, almost everyone is popular. I’m too afraid to talk, so I just sit there while everyone else has fun. Is there a way to get rid of “popular-people phobia”?

Don’t label people around you as “popular” or “unpopular.” Instead, focus on whatever you have in common. Aside from the obvious (being in the same school and classes) you likely have similar interests, like watching the same TV shows, going to concerts and so on. The potential to make new friends is all around you! So next time you’re in math class, gather your courage to join in on a conversation. You can break the ice with something like, “Hey, am I the only one who got tripped up on that isosceles triangle?” and take it from there.
