The best yoga moves for quick energy and more zzz's
Try these moves in the AM for a quick boost of energy:
Cat's pose - Put your hands and knees on a mat with shoulders stacked above wrists and hips over knees (like a kitty). Then bring your head down and in, inhaling and bringing your stomach and back into an arch. Breathe out and bring your back down again. Repeat for 1-2 minutes.
Crescent moon – In this posture, the pelvis and legs anchor into the ground through parallel feet, and the trunk of the body assumes a C-shaped curve to the side. Stand tall on your mat and make a "C" with your hands and arms leaning to one side. Hold this move for 10 seconds, then switch sides 5-10 times.
Downward Facing Dog – Now act like your favorite furry puppy and from your hands and knees again curl your toes under and lift your hips up and back. Keep both knees bent a little, breath deeply and wag your imaginary doggy tail. Press one heel towards the floor, straightening one leg, while bending the other knee. Breathe and switch legs.
Try these moves in the PM to catch some more zzz's:
Nighttime Goddess – Lie on your back with your knees bent, and put the soles of your feet together. Then let your knees fall open to form a diamond shape with your legs. Rest your arms on the bed and breathe deeply for 3-5 min.
Child’s Pose – Sit on your heels and reach your arms out in front of you with your forehead touching the mattress. Hold the pose and breathe for 5 min.
Rock and sleep – Lie on your back with your knees to your chest, and cross your ankles. Inhale and rock your body to sit up, exhale and roll back. Repeat for a minute then extend your arms and legs and drift off to sleep.
